To our hunting industry;
When was the last time you have taken a youth hunting? When was the last time you witnessed a young hunter harvest his first game animal? I have been fortunate to be able guide up to 40 youth hunters and first time hunters a year. To witness the thrill and excitement of stalking and having a chance at their first big game animal, is more of a thrill to me than most hunting experiences.
I have looked into the outdoor hunting world to see what it offered the youth of today. What we found was disturbing to say the least. In today’s technology and computer generation there was very few places that dealt with the hunting and outdoor activities for our younger generation. We have a generation or generations that do not have the opportunity to explore the outdoors. The fast lane of life does not give us the time to slow down and realize what we are missing until it is too late. It is up to us to carry on a tradition of family unity. It is our responsibility to teach our youth of today that hunting and fishing is our right and it is our passion.
We have started the Colorado Mountain Adventures Youth Program. We will teach our youth survival skill’s, map reading, GPS usage. We will teach our students blood trailing, tracking techniques, capeing and quartering big game animals, fly-fishing and streamside fly tying. All of this is taking place in a designated primitive area. No phones, no electricity, no computers no electronic games. This is the only camp in the U.S. that will take the students to a wilderness setting for 10 days and teach all off these skills. Our student will receive a hunter’s safety cert., Red Cross first aid cert.; they will learn the skills of emergency survival. When our students graduate they will have the knowledge that will allow them to enjoy their outdoors with confidence.
Best regards,
